Hello, is it possible to reinstall Windows XP Home Edition without the CD. I have the product key info sticker still on the side of this old Gateway. It still operates but occasionaly I get an error message and the computer has to shutdown. I forget what the error message was, but it was missing a driver or dll or obviously something critical. It's been in my garage for months nwo but I really need to get it back up and running.
Jan 12, 2016 Reboot your computer. Make sure that the Windows XP CD is inserted. Your computer needs to be set to boot from the CD drive first. In order to do this, you will have to enter the BIOS setup. To access the BIOS, hit the Setup button as soon as your computer’s manufacturer’s logo appears.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
It is impossible to install windows without a windows installation package whether the package be on a disc or other bootable device unless, of course, your computer has a recovery option. Personally, however, I do not perceive your issue to be so detrimental as to require a re-install. This is especially true since you are able to use the computer at times. The next time you get the error, write down the error code and post back. In the mean time, download, update and choose a full scan with Malwarebytes and Superantispyware. This very well could resolve the issue. Even if it doesn't atleast you computer will be infection free.
